Turkish Airlines A350-900 Enters Newark Liberty Runway Without Clearance

Turkish Airlines flight TK30 entered Newark Liberty International Airport’s active Runway 4L without clearance on September 15, 2026, while preparing to depart for Istanbul Airport. The A350-900 entered through Taxiway N after ground instructions directed the crew to use Taxiway B and expect the runway. Delta Air Lines Flight 2552 had been cleared to land on Runway 4L.

The tower intervened before the departure began. Controllers had to manage the international jet on the runway while coordinating the arriving Delta aircraft.

The departure crew had been told to “continue for the runway.” That wording was said to have possibly confused the pilots, but the radio exchange did not include a specific clearance to enter Runway 4L.
