The Nepal Tourism Board listed 47 Americans and about 105 Indians among 384 missing travelers after flash floods hit the Bhote Koshi River area in Rasuwa district at 8:30 a.m. local time on August 26, 2026. The preliminary tally also counted 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepalis. The list was preliminary.
Sunil Sharma, the board's spokesperson, put it this way:

Verification continued.
A separate breakdown added 33 British citizens and 34 Australians, while other cases were spread across additional nationalities. Some remained unconfirmed. Another official count put the total at 403, with 341 foreigners and 93 Nepali nationals.
The Prime Minister's Office later said 95 people had been killed and 484 remained missing. It put the missing foreign tourists at 391 and Nepali nationals at 93.
The board said the first list drew on records from 10 tourism and travel agencies. Trekkers Society, Samrat Tours & Travels, Leaf Holiday, Himalayan Glacier and Kailash Journey were among them. The files were partial.
Fishtail Tours & Travels, Alpine Eco Trek, Kathmandu Holiday Tours & Travels, Richa Tours & Travels and Explore Vacation also appeared. Fishtail Tours & Travels was linked to three Americans and 17 Malaysians. Fishtail stood out.
Some same-day reports put the Indian total at 105 and listed 37 NRIs. Later official tallies cited 134 Indians among the missing foreign nationals. The count shifted again.
The missing Indians included people traveling for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. One agency said 59 of the missing Indian nationals were on that pilgrimage. Another report said 57 travelers from Tamil Nadu were missing, with 20 accounted for and 37 still unaccounted for. Pilgrim groups were part of it.
Bad weather slowed the rescue crews
Rescue crews also faced bad weather. Three army helicopters turned back because of it. The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu told citizens needing urgent assistance related to the Rasuwa flooding to call +977-1-423-4000.
