Thailand has cut its visa-free stay to 30 days for travelers from 59 countries and rolled out a digital immigration platform for arrivals, ending the 60-day exemption introduced in 2024. The change took effect after Cabinet approval on May 19, 2026. The old rule is gone.
The shorter entry period now covers visitors from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, among other countries in the group. Officials said the revision was designed to close security loopholes and curb misuse of tourist privileges for unauthorized work or long-term residence. The 60-day exemption introduced in 2024 is over.
Foreign nationals entering by air, land or sea must now file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, or TDAC, through the official portal, tdac.immigration.go.th, within 72 hours before arrival. Paper cards are out.

Border checks are already tightening
Border checks have already tightened. U.S. tourists now need a confirmed onward ticket and proof of at least 20,000 THB, or $560, in funds. Missing TDAC or THIM registration can trigger boarding denials or significant entry delays.
Thai authorities said they denied entry to nearly 30,000 foreigners in the first half of 2026 under the 3 NOs policy, No Entry, No Stay, No Escape. August 1, 2026, is the hard stop.
