British travellers heading to Turkey face an immediate cash fine if police catch them without original photographic ID. The department says travel insurance is unlikely to cover cancelled accommodation, missed flights or return travel if a traveller is turned away because documents are invalid. Airlines can also face financial penalties if they carry passengers who are later refused entry at Turkish borders. Fast.
