(FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND) — A boat carrying about a dozen asylum seekers was intercepted in Far North Queensland on June 30, 2026.
Australian Border Force was involved in the response to the maritime arrival. Authorities are investigating the incident as a people-smuggling operation.
At least two people were arrested after a suspected illegal fishing vessel was found abandoned in the area.
The fishing boat was discovered in the vicinity of the interception. Both vessels are part of the ongoing investigation.
Those aboard the intercepted boat have been taken into custody by border authorities.
The arrested individuals remain in custody.
