Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is rebuilding the online machinery behind Express Entry, but it has not set a launch date for the new Expression of Interest system. The current rules still govern applicants.
A September 4, 2026 transition-binders page says the first release under Digital Platform Modernization will deliver that system, and the program is among the first services targeted. That is a technology rollout. It is not a visa rewrite.

Eligibility, ranking scores and invitations still run under the existing framework until the department changes them. Nothing has been reset. Candidates are still being judged under the old rules.
Many Indian candidates remain in the pool, especially in category-based and high-score rounds, yet the platform does not create India-specific rules. The system stays nationality-neutral. The passport line stays irrelevant.
The broader 2026 reform debate sits on another track. Officials have also been weighing changes to selection design, including whether to merge the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades programs into one system and alter Comprehensive Ranking System weighting. Those ideas are still proposals. They have not taken effect.
A spring consultation closed in May 2026, and officials said the input is still being analyzed after more than 17,000 submissions.

One 2026 industry analysis says occupation-based categories now require at least 12 months of work experience in a single eligible occupation within the past 3 years. That is a higher bar.

Documents already in hand still drive the score
- Check whether your profile fits a current stream such as healthcare, trades, French-language ability, STEM, education, transport or a Canadian-work-experience category.
- Keep language tests, ECA results, work history and proof of funds current when your stream requires them.
- Watch the migration notice, because the new system may change how profiles are created or managed.
- Do not expect the platform swap to make invitations easier, since draw type and CRS score still decide the round.
A separate consultation is already on the clock
A separate consultation on 2027 category-based selection ran from August 4, 2026 to September 1, 2026. Consultation materials pointed to changes as early as 2027, with Canada planning to admit 122,000 permanent residents through the program that year.
