What this office does
USCIS asylum offices conduct affirmative asylum interviews for individuals who applied for asylum (Form I-589) and are not in immigration removal proceedings. They also conduct credible fear and reasonable fear screenings for individuals expressing a fear of return at a port of entry or after a final order of removal. If your case is in immigration court, it is handled by EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review), not by an asylum office.
