🩺 Basic Health Information for Travelers to Tonga

  • Dengue Fever is present in this country so every precaution needs to be taken in order to avoid infection.
  • A valid Yellow Fever certificate is required by all travellers over one year old who have been in an infected area prior to arrival in Tonga.
  • Health care insurance is recommended prior to travelling. Medical facilities in most of the country are considered basic with the more serious cases being sent to nearby countries.
  • All travellers should seek medical advice before travelling to the country and ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date.

  • It is always recommended to keep a certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever when one has travelled to countries with infected areas
  • The tropical cyclone season in Tonga normally runs from November to April and should be avoided. All visitors to the country should check the environment of the region of the country they are planning to visit prior to their flight.
  • Tonga is a relatively conservative and religious country and all bathing suits or revealing clothing should not be worn away from the beaches or swimming pools. Please be aware that Tonga strictly observes the Sabbath. On Sundays any recreational activities undertaken outside of Island resorts may be seen as provocative.
