  • Malaria is present in this country so every precaution needs to be taken in order to avoid infection.
  • Water and food-borne diseases are common to Sudan including salmonella, typhoid, shigella, giardia, hepatitis A and amoebiasis. Travellers are advised to stick to bottled water whenever possible throughout their stay inside the country. Milk and dairy products might be unpasteurised and should be avoided for safety reasons. All meat, fish and vegetables should be well cooked and served boiling hot whilst fruit should be peeled prior to consumption.
  • All travellers should seek medical advice before travelling to the country and ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date.

  • Owing to the extreme risk of terrorism and general acts of violence, travel to Khartoumyou should exercise caution.
  • Permits, obtained locally, are required for all travel to many destinations outside Khartoum, including to Darfur.
  • Protests and demonstrations are a frequent occurrence throughout in Khartoum, Omdurman and elsewhere, and regularly turn violent. All travellers are advised to stay away from any large groups or protests which can potentially become unsafe and could lead to an uncomfortable encounter with the police or the security services.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth office advices against all travel to the three Darfur states (North Darfur, West Darfur and South Darfur).
  • Travlling by using public transport are ricky of involvement in traffic accidents, because many vehicles in the country are not safe.
