🩺 Basic Health Information for Travelers to South Korea
- Japanese encephalitis is present in this country so every precaution needs to be taken in order to avoid infection.
- Medical and dental care in South Korea is generally good. However it can be expensive and staff often do not speak English.
- Travellers are advised to utilise insect repellent and close clothing to limit the risk of infection. There have been several cases of H5N1 Bird Flu in the country and travellers should avoid visiting live animal markets, poultry farms and other places where you may come into close contact with domestic, caged or wild birds; and ensure poultry and egg dishes are thoroughly cooked.
🛡 Basic Security Information for Travelers to South Korea
- Although crime is low in this country, it is not unknown either and instances of theft and violent assaults against random travellers have been noted. All visitors to the country are advised to keep their valuables in a safe and secure location at all times throughout their stay and should avoid any obvious displays of wealth which could attract unwanted attention. Thieves have been known to operate close to many of the major bus and train stations after dark and all visitors should exercise extreme caution if travelling on either of these means of transport during the night.
