🩺 Basic Health Information for Travelers to North Korea

  • Health facilities in North Korea are poor, even for foreigners, dental treatment as well. Invasive surgery should be avoided if at all possible.
  • Certain medicines may prove difficult or expensive to obtain in this country and all travellers should bring a supply of emergency medication sufficient for the duration of their visit. Emergency evacuation to a nearby country may become necessary in the event of a serious accident or illness.
  • Travellers should also adopt similar defences against Japanese Encephalitis which can appear at any time of the year in rural or industrialised areas of the country. Visitors planning on travelling to these areas or simply staying in the country for a prolonged period of time should obtain vaccinations against this disease prior to their arrival.
  • All travellers should seek medical advice before travelling to the country and ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date.

🛡 Basic Security Information for Travelers to North Korea

  • British Foreign and Common-wealth office assesses that there is no evidence of any increased risk or danger to those living in or travelling to DPRK as a result of current tensions. However, further provocations by DPRK cannot be ruled out and you should continue to monitor news reports.
  • Foreign mobile phones and Global Positioning Systems have to be deposited with North Korean customs on entry into the country and collected on departure. It is also not advisable to bring books or other written material in the Korean language. These and any other literature deemed subversive or pornographic by the North Korean authorities risk being confiscated from travellers on arrival.
  • Ask permission before taking photographs. Photographs of Korean officials or guarded or protected buildings should be avoided.
