The overall standard of healthcare inside Nicaragua not well equipped and limited with the better facilities. Travellers to the region are strongly advised to bring along any required medicine which might prove expensive or impossible to obtain here. Doctors inside the country are likely to demand instant cash payment for any services rendered and complete health and travel insurance is recommended.

There have been numerous reports of theft and violent assaults targeting tourists and foreign visitors to the country and all travellers are advised to keep their passport and other valuables in a safe and secure location for the duration of their visit and should also avoid any obvious displays of affluence which could potentially attract unwanted attention. There has been a noted increase in gang related violence throughout many of the major cities throughout the country and all visitors should avoid travelling alone where possible.
Traffic discipline are generally poor and driving is therefore hazardous. There is no street lighting on the main highways between major cities and only minimal street lighting in urban areas.Driving standards and the conditions of vehicles are poor, particularly those of taxis and buses.
