🩺 Basic Health Information for Travelers to Gibraltar

  • Tick borne encephalitis may be a danger if visiting forested areas and travellers should obtain the necessary vaccination before visiting the country.
  • Travellers should take the normal precautions when dealing with bloody needles or if engaging in sexual activity during their visit.
  • The number for ambulances and general medical assistance is 122.
  • All UK travellers can receive free medical treatment upon presentation of a valid passport as proof of residence. EU citizens can also receive treatment on presentation of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The main hospital, St Bernard’s, should be capable of handling most medical cases but transport to Spain or England might prove necessary in emergencies. Medical treatment elsewhere and prescribed medicines must be paid for. Dental treatment must also be paid for but extractions are undertaken for a nominal charge at St Bernard’s.

🛡 Basic Security Information for Travelers to Gibraltar

  • Although generally safe, there have been reports of travellers being attacked when travelling alone after dark between Spain and Gibraltar. Travellers are advised to take care if travelling alone and to keep their passports and other valuables in a safe location for the duration of their visit.
  • Travellers visiting the country during the summer months should obtain plenty of sunscreen and bottled water to guard against any risk of dehydration.
  • Local roads should be relatively safe to drive down although delays are likely if planning to cross between Gibraltar and Spain during busy times or throughout the summer months. Foreign drivers should avoid any drink or drugs related activity which will be frowned upon and could lead to being arrested or detained by the police services.
