  • A yellow fever vaccination is required if visiting the country.
  • Water should always be boiled prior to use and should never be used swim or bathe in unless certain it has been decontaminated first. Travellers should take on bottled water for their visit and stick to wherever possible. Food should always be boiled and cooked thoroughly before being eaten. Dairy products should be checked thoroughly prior to being eaten.
  • Routine immunizations and protection from vaccine preventable diseases such as rabies, polio, meningitis, typhoid, hepatitis A and B should be considered necessary prior to flight. Travellers should take all necessary precautions if engaging in sexual intercourse or dealing with syringes.
  • Wild animals should be avoided because of the potential risk of rabies and any parents visiting with children should instruct their children on the potential dangers of approaching the untamed animals. If bitten, visitors should waste no time in cleaning the wound and visiting the nearest doctor to check for signs of infection.
  • Overall medical facilities in the country are extremely limited and untrustworthy. Visitors are strongly urged to label any drugs they might require and to visit a foreign hospital if required.

  • A politically unsafe region, travellers are strongly urged to check the country’s political and social state prior to their flight and to plan their visit accordingly. Acts of theft and overall violence are common in the country and visitors should keep their valuables in a safe place at all times.
  • Women in the country are considered socially and economically inferior and violence to women regularly occurs. Female visitors in particular are encouraged to avoid the more rural areas of the country and to avoid travelling alone or without protection.
  • The state law enforcement agencies have a history of corruption and should be avoiding where possible. Photographs and pictures of important army and government structures are banned and can be seized without warning by the security services.
