  • A reasonable amount of tobacco products for personal use
  • A reasonable amount of alcoholic products suitable only for personal use

  • The whole value of accompanied luggage should not exceed $500
  • Up to AFA 50,000 in local currency can be exported out of the country. Foreign currencies must equal the amount imported and declared. An "Ansari Application Form" is required for amounts over AFA 1,000,00.

Alcohol cannot be consumed in public and all pork products are prohibited from being imported or eaten in this country. Western women should wear a head scarf during their visit and showing the bottom of the foot is considered an insult. Photos of important government buildings, palaces and military installations are not allowed and will likely lead to being detained or arrested by the security services. Photos of local people or places should only be taken with their permission.
  • Homosexuality is banned in this country and any overt displays of affection between same sex couples in public could lead to trouble.
